SELFIE

Selfie (2020) – 29.7 cm x 21 cm – Alcohol markers on white paper My darling wife Samantha, taken from a selfie she took this year. She looks beautiful and is expressing her love to me by sending this via a WhatsApp message.

DEATHBED 1

Deathbed 1 (2020) – 29.7 cm x 42 cm – Brush pen and watercolour paints on card This piece expresses my frustration at being tethered to the overwhelming number of series produced in modern times. ‘Binge-watching’ on-demand programming has become the norm, but the trouble is that you become endlessly chained to every subsequent season… Continue reading DEATHBED 1

VOID

VOID (2020) – 43 cm x 61 cm – Alcohol markers on card Some of my art features a screaming figure, symbolising my frustrations with life and my desire to be heard. Having been a painfully shy child, I still carry significant remnants of this shyness into adulthood. The absence of eyes in the head… Continue reading VOID

BASQUIAT

Basquiat (2020) – 29.7 cm x 21 cm – Alcohol markers on paper On the occasion of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s 60th birthday on 22nd December 2020, I found myself browsing through photographs of him online. A captivating Polaroid picture of Basquiat in a shirt and tie caught my eye. Just a week earlier, I had interviewed… Continue reading BASQUIAT

WAYNE MARSH

Wayne Marsh was an acquaintance of mine. After a 20-year break from art, I returned without a clear direction but had some fun drawing portraits of people. I particularly enjoyed the pink, almost purple hue of Wayne’s face—I’m sure he appreciates it.

ODE TO PICASSO

Ode to Picasso (2019) – 21 cm x 14.8 cm – Marker pens on paper This piece was created during my black-and-white drawing experimentation phase. Using a reference photo of Picasso and transforming it into my representation was enjoyable. The result is reminiscent of a graphic novel style.

FATHER AND SON

Father and son (2019) – 21 cm x 14.8 cm – Watercolour marker pens on paper This art piece presents a stylised and intimate portrayal of a father and son, captured in a moment of closeness. The father is an old friend of mine, and I felt compelled to draw them from a reference photo.

WILD MAN

WILD MAN (2019) – 14.8 CM x 21 CM – WATERCOLOUR MARKER PENS ON PAPER This drawing is of my friend and former colleague, an intriguing character with countless stories to share. There’s no trace of shyness in him, which makes spending time with him a delight, especially since he’s quite the opposite of me.… Continue reading WILD MAN

RORY WALKER

RORY WALKER (2019) – 21 cm x 14.8 cm – Watercolour brush pens on paper We are often inspired by what we are most exposed to. Rory Walker, a former colleague and professional illustrator based in Bristol, would prolifically draw me as various characters, including a giant rat (don’t ask). His prolific drawing was part… Continue reading RORY WALKER
