Basquiat (2020) – 29.7 cm x 21 cm – Alcohol markers on paper
On the occasion of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s 60th birthday on 22nd December 2020, I found myself browsing through photographs of him online. A captivating Polaroid picture of Basquiat in a shirt and tie caught my eye.
Just a week earlier, I had interviewed the artist Olek on my podcast. Before our conversation, she had visited The Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, where Basquiat is laid to rest, to pay her respects. In gratitude for Olek’s time, I made a small donation towards the maintenance of the cemetery grounds.
