DEATHBED 1

DEATHBED 1.

Deathbed 1 (2020) – 29.7 cm x 42 cm – Brush pen and watercolour paints on card

This piece expresses my frustration at being tethered to the overwhelming number of series produced in modern times.

‘Binge-watching’ on-demand programming has become the norm, but the trouble is that you become endlessly chained to every subsequent season that follows. The compounding effect is tremendous. Imagine watching 10 new shows per year; over five years, that’s 50 seasons, not to mention the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh seasons of each show. It’s never-ending.

The ball and chain around the man’s ankle symbolise this trap, and the displayed words, “Man on deathbed: I wished I watched more TV shows,” ironically suggests that no one would ever say this on their deathbed.
