The Weekly Art Practice of an Outsider Artist known as SLART

📌 NEW HERE? WHAT’S THIS WEEKLY ART PRACTICE ALL ABOUT?

Every Saturday, I share my weekly art practice journey. I’m captivated by the process – not just the finished pieces but everything from influences to materials. It’s like getting a behind-the-scenes peek at an artist’s world.

[If this masterpiece is too long for email, you can read Cream of the Crop in Substack. Or download the Substack app.]

⏳ Memento Vivere Art Exhibition Update (Coming in September 2025)

I have received a small order of 250 black and white flyers, I’m keeping it rough looking; it’s printed on A5 80gsm paper. I don’t see the point in printing in glossy flyer material. It’s meant to look rough and cool.

Cool innit?

I’m going to use this section as a to-do list for the coming week.

  1. Write private view guest list (include ‘dream’ guests’ of people I admire).

  2. Prepare for my patronage meeting on Thursday.

  3. Scheule emails to art orgs about the exhibition.

I’ll keep it at that for now. I have a week off from the day job, but the new home is our priority. If I can get some studio time, that’ll be a lovely bonus!

Global Zine Collaboration Project: Part 7:

We are there! Thanks to all involed. The next step is designing the layout of the Zine. Thanks for your support in the leadership/admin side!

We have 33 completed pages at the time of writing, I will leave it until Monday for any last-minute entries. More next week…

🎨 This Week in My Art Studio

A part of me wants to rent a skip, throw it all out, and start again. Would that be a good idea? In the most positive way, I want a blank canvas, metaphorically speaking.

I haven’t been in my studio this week, but we are moving house on Saturday, and as I keep saying, I’ll be much closer, so expect some updates next week.

Art Open Calls

I thought I’d apply to one this week…

Observica Magazine – 31st Issue – Special Edition 2025

After I applied, it was free initially, but you have to pay $200 to be in the magazine. They can BEEEEP right off!

The magazine looks ok; let’s see if I even get accepted.

Petition to remove AI gen images from Substack

Yes, I know I am a techie/AI nerd and this seems contradictory. But last and foremost, I am an artist. I cringe when people use AI-generated images for their posts. I’m not against AI-generated images, I just think it’s a lazy and unattractive way to decorate your posts when you can use Upsplash or as an artist, you can use their images (or even take a photo yourself). So I’ve set up a petition on Substack to see who agrees with me, and then I will send this directly to Substack.

I decided to put up a page on my website and Substack selling my services as a professional public speaker. Ironically, I’m terrified… but HIRE ME!

P.S. One more thing, could you please leave a 4 or 5-star (Hopefully not 1,2 or 3) review on my SLART Google page? I’m looking to enhance my online presence as an artist, and this small, straightforward, and swift action would be immensely beneficial. Cheers!
