DREI FRAGEN with Kofí Boamah

Each Wednesday I ask a different artist the same three questions.

This week’s featured artist is someone I greatly admire, I mean, Kofí is the most dedicated artist I know! We met in person just after I had a dialysis session in 2022. Although I felt shitty, he put me at ease, we spent some time painting together in his London studio while listening to Biggie Smalls—I’m a big ’90s hip-hop fan.

1. What first sparked your interest in creating art?

It’s difficult as art can, at times, seem synonymous with life I’m not sure when there was a specific moment which made me a Painter. It’s lots of little moments that have culminated into the now really.

2. What are your regrets?

It’s best to live with no regrets. I read a lot of the great stoics and they talk a lot about keeping this attitude. I think regret can be small-minded and I aim to think bigger.

3. What wisdom would you offer someone beginning their art career, or exploring art for the first time at any stage in life?

Just dive in without any pretense or suggestion as that will enable whatever you create to come out honest. And people respect honesty.
